The Grassic Gibbon Centre in Arbuthnott is delighted to announce what promises to be a wonder-ful evening of entertainment celebrating the life of legendary Dundee singer/songwriter Michael Marra, who passed away in October 2012.
Acclaimed writer James Robertson’s new biography about his friend Michael subtitled Arrest This Moment will have its North East launch at the Grassic Gibbon Centre at the event on Thursday, the 7th of December.
James has produced a publication which will be treasured by Michael Marra fans all over the world. The evening will consist of a conversation between James and Andy Hall followed by a question and answer audience opportunity and a book signing. A selection of Michael’s songs will also be played, courtesy of his family. There will be a very special raffle in aid of Optimistic Sound to raise the hopes and aspirations of young people in Dundee.
Centre director Andy anticipates the event - “ We are very privileged to be able to host this event. James is one of Scotland’s leading writers. In Michael Marra: Arrest This Moment, he has used his highly-acclaimed writing skills to produce a very memorable tribute to his friend. Michael’s talent, love, humility and humanity shine out from every page.
The location of the event is very appropriate for this event. Michael was a huge admirer of Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s writing. It inspired two of his best-loved songs, one of which, “Happed In Mist”, relates to the story of Sunset Song and the relationship between Chris Guthrie and Ewan Taven-dale. Michael visited the Centre from time to time to support local songwriters or to entertain a sell-out audience.
This promises to be an unforgettable evening in the heart of Sunset Song country.”
